Coming to therapy
What’s holding you back?
FAQ
Taking the first step can be the hardest one, especially when we’re not sure what to expect. Let’s make it a little bit easier.
I’m not sure if you can help me
Here’s a little bit about what my clients are struggling with. Is any of this you?
You’re not as productive as you know you could be and used to be, and that feels frustrating and scary. Why isn’t trying harder working?
The things you’ve used to hold yourself and your life together aren’t working anymore. You feel like everything is harder than it should be, and takes more energy than you have. You’re burnt out, exhausted, and not sure where to go from here.
Emotions are really big, and sometimes feel out of your control. Maybe they feel explosive, or maybe you feel totally numb and shut down.
You’re very self-aware, but that doesn’t help you change anything.
You’re coming to terms with the idea that you’re neurodivergent, whether that’s confirmed or suspected. It feels like it might be the piece that makes everything make sense, but you don’t know what to do about it.
Other people don’t understand you when you try to explain what’s wrong. They tell you that you’re “fine”, but you don’t feel fine. You’re not okay.
It’s okay that you’re not okay. It doesn’t have to be this hard. Send me an email, and let’s talk about it.
I don’t know what getting started will look like
Send me an email asking to set up a consultation, and we’ll set up a free, 15-minute consultation video meeting. This is your vibe check. You can bring any questions you have, and anything you know you want to work on so we can make sure we’ll be on the same page. If you’re not sure what to ask, that’s okay - I can ask you some questions and tell you a bit about my approach so we can both get an idea of what working together will be like.
From there, after our meeting, I’ll help you get set up as a client. I’ll send you some informed consent paperwork, and show you the policies that keep Through the Cracks running, like the limits to my confidentiality so you know what that looks like, how to book, how and when to cancel or reschedule sessions, how to send me documents or messages, and how to pay. We’ll go over any questions you have about all of it in our first session, so that you know exactly how things work.
What our sessions look like will depend on what’s going to work for you. I’m a support, a resource, and a toolbox with some pretty good insight skills - but you’re the one that gets to say if something is working or not. You can’t do this work wrong.
The general timeline that I suggest for coming to counselling is that we meet every week for the first few weeks, then move to every two weeks, and then further apart as you’re integrating what you’re learning and putting things into practice. This is so we can hit the initial learning curve together, and get to know one another so we can be effective. But if you need to start with sessions further apart, or need sessions more often, we’ll work that into the conversation. You know what’s going to work best for you - cognitively, emotionally, and financially.
I don’t know if my sessions would be covered
As a private practice, I don’t offer direct billing. However, I do issue a receipt which you can claim for reimbursement with your insurance company/plan, if you have one. You’ll need to check with your specific plan for what kind of mental health services are covered, and up to how much. Reach out to a contact with your insurance company to clarify if my specific services would be covered. Send me a message if you need more information or a bit of help figuring out what you’re looking for.
Sessions at Through the Cracks Therapy are $175, and are classified as clinical counselling services as per my CCC designation.
I’ve asked for help before, and it wasn’t what I needed
I hear you. It can be so hard to reach out for help when we’ve done it before, and it hasn’t worked - maybe it’s even gone badly. But, listen. I’m so glad you’re reading this right now, because it means you’re thinking about trying again. I know the courage that takes, and I’m proud of you! I’m here to understand what things look and feel like to you, not tell you what you’re experiencing. I promise, you make sense. If something doesn’t make sense, we just don’t have enough information yet.
As a queer and neurodivergent person myself, we’re going to start out with a lot of the same ways of experiencing the world. You won’t have to explain the basics of your identity or reality to me, and we can dig into what you actually need help with.
I don’t know what feeling better would look like
I can tell you a little bit about what my clients experience when they work with me.
They can be more compassionate with themselves - in a way that feels real and genuine to them.
They understand themselves and their emotions better.
They identify and shift ways of living that aren’t working for them. That saves them time, energy, and frustration.
They’re learning what they want and need to prioritize, and how to do it.
They’re starting to enjoy themselves again.
They’re learning what taking care of themselves really means.

It's a free, 15 minute virtual meeting so you can find out what it's going to be like to work with me. It's your place to ask questions, or I can guide the conversation. These can feel nerve-wracking, but you don't need to be prepared; just present. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
